Opera Mini 5 for iPhone
Tuesday, 13 April 2010
Opera released their wildly popular and vastly useful Opera Mini 5 for the iPhone as of today. Well rather, Apple approved Opera’s Mini web browsing client as of today.
Go get it in your app store now!
For people having problem where Opera Mini get’s stuck in the loading page upon first use, please try to access Opera Mini with Edge or 3g upon first use and then enable Wi-fi after the first page is loaded. Also, go to settings–>Advanced–>Protocol–>Select HTTP and things work fine for me. At least this did it for me. There seems to be some problem with proxy or firewall not able to access Opera Mini’s server for the first page.
Other than that, My first impressions: Wow. Pretty cool interface and all the goodies of Opera’s desktop version like Opera Link (opera’s sync service), bookmarks management and password storage. Maybe in the next version of Opera Link, they can sync the passwords too like Mozilla Weave. That would be a killer, particularly considering Safari never ever stores more than one password for the same domain and is pretty poor at it.
Opera Mini offers long awaited choice, competition and some class to mobile browsing. Already it’s the most popular browsing platform on mobile devices, other than the iPhone. Now since it’s on the iPhone, it will surely become the number one on all mobile devices. If customers, get to like it on their iPhones, it might just have done some real good for Opera on the desktop, which is already picking up market share by the day.
